1973 Fender Telecaster Deluxe, w/RARE Factory Tremolo

This is a "Deluxe" model Telecaster. Fender first introduced this model, which features 2 wide-range hum-bucking pickups in the 1971 / 1972 era. It's production continued up until about 1980. This particular example was built in 1973 and received the optional Tremolo unit, which based on my research was discontinued by the end of 1974, rendering this Tremolo variety a VERY low production and short-lived model.
These guitars were only available with a fretted maple neck, and interestingly, Fender incorporated a large, Stratocaster headstock design, their 3-bolt micro-tilt setup and back body contour, all of these features are more reminiscent of a Stratocaster of the day. There were several optional colors, and this one was finished in a beautiful, eye-pleasing Natural finish that has slowly matured and aged over the past 4 and a half decades, displaying a lovely, warm patina and vibe which my large and clear photos illustrate.

Reportage

I have examined, tested, serviced and set-up this instrument and found it to be factory-correct and original. I am aware of two minor issues to mention and disclose. I replaced the ground wire that connects from the spring claw in the back and attaches to 1 of the pots, and I have also re-soldered the Rhythm PU chrome cover, which i discovered was a tad loose during my inspection. All of the electronics, frets, nut, tuners, finish, and both the plastic and chrome plated metal hardware are all correct and original to the guitar.
The 4 potentiometers are matched and dated. The 2 Volumes are the 26th week of 1973, and the 2 Tone pots are dated the 46th week of 1973.
Overall, the guitar is in excellent condition except for a cosmetic issue. There is evidence that some type of STICKER was once attached to the face. The sticker was crudely removed prior to me purchasing the instrument, and the proof of this is visible when you look at the guitar in "reflected" light, (please refer to photo #17 to see the affected area.) The sticker removal scratched the finish and left permanent scars in the clearcoat.
I have attempted to "highlight" this issue with a picture (see photo 17); however, in person and in most of the photos, it is not very noticeable as You can also see.
The guitar shows signs of some normal usage, I can see strumming marks on the pickguard and the back shows some marks, and light scratches here and there too, and because of the cosmetic sticker issue, I am rating the guitar a conservative "8" overall instead of a 9 out of 10.

The CASE is the original Black Tolex with Orange lining and has the large front logo. The case is in matching, clean condition with a functioning handle, latches, and hinges.
The guitar has just been set up with a new set of D'addario XL 10 - 46 gauge strings.

Comments

I acquired this guitar about 25 years ago while running my store. Due to the RARITY of the factory-installed Tremolo, I opted to hold onto this one, and it never made it onto the walls of my store. This guitar is now 45 years old and has been resting in storage and has been spared all of the "circulation" that most instruments being offered online today have undergone. The guitar is generally crisp and clean and has not had any major repairs, parts restoration or any modifications aside from the sticker removal. The frets remain in excellent condition due to the low mileage.
If you like Telecasters or collect Rare model Fenders, this may appeal to You as it did to me. Should you have any questions or interest in this guitar, please inquire.
